Description
Will Paucar’s oil on canvas celebrates an eternal and indissoluble love, capable of withstanding all adversity. Nocturne IV is inspired by the story of Hero and Leander, two lovers featured in a Greek myth.
Through delicate, nuanced blue brushstrokes, Paucar depicts two faceless female figures in a tender embrace, facing the viewer. The absence of recognizable features in the faces of the two subjects makes the love depicted both intimate and universal; the shades of blue recall the sea, tenderness, nostalgia, and the night.
The intertwining of the figures suggests a deep and pure connection, similar to that of Hero and Leander. In the myth, the two lovers live on opposite shores of a stormy sea. Every night, Leander braves the violent currents to reach his beloved, guided by the light of the candle that Hero keeps burning. When the flame goes out, Leander is lost among the waves and tragically dies before he can reach her.
The work belongs to the Anima Mundi collection, in which the artist silently attempts to give form to the chaos that surrounds us, revealing a primordial energy that permeates the universe. Through colors, shapes, and movements, the work reveals a hidden order and the intrinsic beauty that lies beneath apparent disorder.
