Description
A wolf stands on a snowy ridge, head tilted back, mid-howl. There is no pack visible, no landscape beyond a softly washed winter sky — just the animal, the snow, the stones beneath its feet, and the sound we can almost hear.
Sarah Hitt renders the wolf with the kind of attention that comes from genuine admiration for her subject. The fur is built up in layered strokes — dark greys, warm ochres, flashes of white where the light catches the coat — while the background dissolves into a luminous, atmospheric wash that gives the composition both depth and stillness. The contrast between the detailed, textured animal and the soft, minimal background is what gives this piece its particular tension: something wild and precise, set against something quiet and open.
Calling the Pack was inspired by the spirit of NC State University and the qualities long associated with wolves — strength, independence, instinct. But the image speaks beyond any specific reference: this is a universal portrait of solitude and call, of the moment before the answer comes.
A work that brings wild energy and quiet beauty into any space. Available as a print in 15×19 cm, with other sizes available on request.
