Description
Caterina Ardizzon reinterprets the myth of Pandora, an ancient figure of female curiosity and destiny, in a contemporary key, transforming her into a symbol of liberation and awareness. This work is part of the Senza Voce (2024) project, a series of works in which the artist explores the condition of women and their progressive reappropriation of expressive, physical, and identity-building space.
Through her unmistakable visual language—characterized by essential lines and bold colors—Ardizzon depicts an emancipated Pandora, no longer a victim of the act of opening the box, but an active agent of her own redemption. The scene unfolds in a balance between lightness and strength: the female figure emerges from a light background, surrounded by fluid signs and recurring patterns, elements that refer to cyclicality and inner movement.
The artist overturns the classical mythological paradigm: the vase, rather than containing misfortunes, becomes a metaphor for the consciousness and creative energy that every woman possesses. “Freeing oneself” means, in Ardizzon’s language, rediscovering one’s voice, body, and presence, central themes of the Senza Voce project. The work thus fits into a broader narrative, where a Greek myth merges with contemporary reflections on identity, femininity, and freedom.
