Description
In The Solitude of Demons, Angela Bello explores the liminal atmospheres of the interior of a moving bus, the same non-place depicted in her twin work The Solitude of Angels. In this work, the focus is on shadows, understood as unknowable microcosms that conceal the deepest part of human existence.
The creative process begins with the definition of light, then expands to the gradation of shadows, meticulously painted and then corroded and dissolved through the application of a thinner on the wet paint. This gesture of simultaneous construction and deconstruction reflects the fragile contingency of human life.
Corrosion becomes a metaphor for the impossibility of describing what cannot be seen: shadows, unknown and indescribable territories.
