A dark-skinned female body emerges from a vibrant pink background, her face obscured by a swirl of brushstrokes that erase every recognizable feature. It is through these contrasts that Will Paucar questions the very nature of identity.
Figure 14 belongs to the Figures collection, a series of works in which the artist explores the essence of identity through abstract and expressive forms, presenting faces with undefined contours in a continuous dialogue between the known and the unknown. Behind the subject’s lack of recognizable features, a space of interpretative possibilities opens, where the observer is invited to engage with what is familiar and what remains mysterious. The female figure thus becomes an investigation into the nature of identity, suspended between physical presence and impalpability.
The expressive brushstrokes that occupy the face dialogue with the solidity of the body, creating a visual tension between definition and indefiniteness, between what we can recognize and what escapes immediate understanding.
