EMPAT

EMPAT is the artistic name of Emily Patricia Valencia Crespin, a visual artist born in November 1994 with Ecuadorian roots, active in Milan. Her pseudonym is born from a play on words between the initials of her names and the concept of empathy — a territory still being explored in her personal and creative research.

Milan, a city of ambition, speed, and competition, is the urban context in which EMPAT lives and creates. In this frenetic environment, where pausing to observe the moments that matter can seem difficult, the artist instead finds it necessary to slow down, to gather sensations, impressions, and memories, and to transform them into artistic form by following the instinct of the moment.

EMPAT’s work expresses itself through what she herself calls “sketches” — a term that does not diminish but rather underscores the spontaneity and immediacy of her creative process. These sketches are her outlet, a tacit yet evident eroticism that reigns supreme in her imagination. Art becomes for her an instrument of emotional liberation, a space in which to give visible form to what is interior, instinctive, and urgent.

Central to EMPAT’s research is the exploration of the body, desire, and the erotic dimension — understood not as provocation, but as a truth of existence. Her works capture fragments of emotional experience, bodily memories, moments in which intimacy becomes a universal language. An art that does not fear vulnerability, and that finds its authenticity in spontaneity.

EMPAT represents a generation of artists working on expressive immediacy, on the urgency of giving shape to emotions without academic filters or conceptual superstructures. Her work is an invitation to stop, to look at what normally escapes notice in the daily rush, and to recognise the beauty and power of what is intimate, instinctive, and deeply human
