Description

A face dissolves before our eyes. Dan Faco creates a powerful work about the decomposition of identity: the face, painted in black and white with fluid gestural backgrounds, progressively shatters into three-dimensional fragments that seem to detach from the surface like shards of memory.

The horizontal composition unfolds from left to right like a tale of disintegration: on the left, the face is still recognizable, the hair blowing in the wind, the gaze turned outward, the physiognomy defined. Proceeding to the right, the image fragments into textured relief elements created with charcoal and resin that create a three-dimensional texture. These fragments—textured pixels, pieces of a disintegrating mosaic—progressively detach from the human form until they become pure geometric abstraction on the right side of the work.

The black and white is worked with broad, fluid gestures in the figurative section, while it becomes dry, angular, and broken in the fragmented area. The resin captures and reflects the light, creating a play of deep shadows that emphasizes the three-dimensionality of the fragments raised from the surface. The charcoal adds an organic, almost carbon-like texture, as if the face were burning or transforming into another material.

Fragments of Identity explores the complexity of modern identity: not a fixed image, but a mosaic of ever-evolving experiences. The self is fragmented and constantly changing.
