Virginia Gerri is a Milanese photographer with Sicilian roots. She grew up carrying with her that distinctly Mediterranean ability to observe the world and find beauty in the details that hurry erases.
Photography entered her life through her father’s hands: as a child she played with his camera, learning without knowing it that a photograph is first and foremost a way of seeing. Trained at an art school, she has continued to nurture photography as a deep and necessary passion, even when her professional life took other directions.

For Virginia, photography is not documentation: it is an act of resistance against speed. A means of slowing time down, of rescuing from the frenzy of everyday life those moments and details that normally go unnoticed — a figure seen from behind at the edge of a lake, a droplet suspended in mid-air, a wrought iron gate emerging from the snow. Images that exist for an instant, which she chooses to stop, to share, to give back to whoever is looking.

She works in both black and white and colour, with a preference for natural light and for subjects that speak of waiting, suspension and silence. In 2023 she presented her first solo photography exhibition at Galleria Pisacane Arte in Milan.
