Alessandra Roda

“Time, memory, oblivion. The infinite traces of our passage on earth are erased by nature, returning to the endless cycle of life. What, then, is the fate of man, caught between the desire for immortality and an inevitable return to dust? This is the question at the heart of my work.”

Alessandra Roda

Alessandra Roda (Como, 2000) is an Italian contemporary artist who moves between fine art printmaking, drawing, painting and small-scale three-dimensional experimentation.

After training at the Liceo Artistico, she earned her first- and second-level academic diplomas in Printmaking from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. Following a training internship at Associazione Lithos in Como, dedicated to art printing and publishing, for which she ran a drypoint and monotype workshop, she worked as a collaborator with Associazione Arte&Arte in Como, an organiser of art exhibitions and events. During this collaboration, she curated the international metal sculpture exhibition Ironcraft, held in February 2026 at the Torre Viscontea in Lecco, in partnership with SiMUL. She was also a speaker at the conference La stampa d’arte: tecniche e applicazioni pratiche (“Art Printing: Techniques and Practical Applications”), held at the Pinacoteca Civica di Como in collaboration with the Amici dei Musei di Como.

She currently organises drawing and printmaking courses and workshops. Her artistic research is directed toward the intimate world of the human being โ€” its inner tensions, desires and fears. After an initial exploration of the emotional power of colour, expressed through abstract forms, she turned to the theme of memory: the human need, as a mortal creature, to leave behind a trace that outlasts one’s own lifetime.

The question running through her work is: what remains after the death of the individual? From this emerges the remnants of civilisation, silent faceless figures, and an encroaching nature that overtakes these ruins. Across deserted places, suspended in atmosphere, hovers a sense of stillness that underscores the absence of man. And yet this emptiness is charged with the presence of those no longer here, who once inhabited these very spaces โ€” remaining as an echo of their passage, of their existence. Man’s fate is oblivion: a reunion with the nature to which he belongs. This union between man and nature points to the underlying spiritual dimension that runs through all things โ€” which is why the structures she depicts are so often ancient places of worship, spaces where the soul of those no longer present lingers most strongly. The artist explores this theme through two approaches: an investigation through colour, using India ink and oil colours on paper or canvas, and through black-and-white contrast, achieved through linocut printing and drypoint. She also loves to experiment, and is currently working on small sculptures as a way of approaching the three-dimensional as well.
