Following the Call for Artists “Soft Boundaries,” open from 12 to 17 June 2026, Art4Women received applications from artists within its community for the artistic concept of a ReWeave LA design pouf, developed as part of the collaboration with the international company specialising in reclaimed and premium fabrics, with a view to a possible presentation at the Lake Como Design Festival 2026.
Proposals were assessed on their ability to interpret the theme of the boundary as a space of encounter, transformation and relationship, on the balance between artistic value and production feasibility, and on their coherence with the artist’s distinctive visual language.
Selected Artist
Laura GuildA, Seam (boundaries as zones of contact)
Laura GuildA’s project overturns the most immediate meaning of the seam, shifting it from a gesture that joins two separate fabrics to an autonomous decorative mark, one able to cross the margin and render it visible. The seam becomes embroidery, the true protagonist of the surface, turning a technical element into a relational language.
The pouf will be traced by stitching in different colours, unfolding in sinuous, fluid lines that compose a motif inspired by the theme of the kiss, a universal symbol of encounter. In keeping with the artist’s ongoing research — which for years has explored thread, fabric and fibre through a material-driven lens, moving between embroidery, macramé and felting — the project brings to the surface a balance between overall vision and painstaking detail, the distinctive mark of her visual language.
Born and raised in Germany and now based in Milan, Laura GuildA trained between NABA (Fashion and Textile Design) and the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera (Visual Arts and Decoration). Her research, which weaves together materiality and social reflection, has been shown in solo and group exhibitions including Fil Rouge (SDC Textile & Art Studio, Perugia, 2020), Unconventional / Arte Tabù (Como, 2023) and the Venice International Art Fair (Palazzo Albrizzi-Cappello, Venice, 2021).
Laura GuildA will now work closely with ReWeave LA on the development and realisation of the project, brought to life directly on the pouf and transforming it into a one-of-a-kind piece. The work will be exhibited at the Lake Como Design Festival 2026, bringing the artist’s material and relational language into an international design and sustainability context.
