Description
Pet Daruma is a series of sculptures by Serena Gianoli: rounded, spherical figures with cat-like ears and a weighted base, 3D-printed and entirely hand-painted by the artist.
The project emerges from the meeting of two worlds: the tradition of the Daruma doll—a wish-granting figure symbolizing perseverance and good fortune—and Gianoli’s visual universe, defined by bold geometries, primary colors, and precise graphic marks. The result is a hybrid creature: both familiar and unexpected, decorative yet deeply meaningful.
Each Pet Daruma carries Gianoli’s unmistakable visual language painted across its surface: patterns inspired by Japanese aesthetics, kanji for luck, and a colorful design that wraps around the spherical form.
But Pet Daruma is not just an object to be observed—it is a companion with which to make a pact. Traditionally, when one decides to pursue a goal, the first eye is painted; once the goal is achieved, the second is completed. The figure thus becomes a tangible witness to a journey fulfilled. Each Pet Daruma evolves with its owner over time, growing alongside them. The series is available in multiple color variations, each hand-painted: no two pieces are ever identical.
