Description
Oriana Labruna, in her Metamorfosi collection of watercolors, interprets and reflects on the figure of Pinocchio as a universal representation of the human soul.
In Atlas, the puppet finds himself having to drag the entire world by pulling a rope. The title of the watercolor recalls the myth of Atlas, the giant condemned to hold up the vault of heaven. Unlike Atlas, however, Pinocchio bears the burden of existence – represented by the globe – to find his path towards humanity. This is not an imposed punishment, but a necessary choice to undertake his initiatory journey.
Pinocchio’s wood, therefore, becomes a symbol of every human being on his or her journey of metamorphosis, of self-transformation in search of wisdom. The puppet’s journey evokes the pathic dimension of life, in a complex but transformative journey.
