Description

Opera Finalista del Premio Marchionni 2021

A pictorial and allegorical reworking of the myth of the Moirai, associated with the functioning of the Thanatron device, invented by Dr. Kevorkian. The work aims to restore an aesthetic and allegorical dimension to a painfully central theme in contemporary times. The choice to portray the same model for the three Moirai is solely intended to reaffirm the functional unity of the Thanatron. The beauty of the model portrayed is in no way connected to a positive judgment on the concepts of euthanasia and assisted suicide. These remain ethical concepts that, addressed in the narrative progression of the work, culminate in liberation from a state of suffering. The reference to the Thanatron, from a visual perspective, is solely the representation of the chemical elements characterizing the various pharmacological phases, treating with appropriate sensitivity the association between the myth and the themes exegetically connected to the work. Since no judgment is implied regarding the themes, they are merely hinted at within the work’s stylistic economy. A full understanding of the work, therefore, is left to a particularly attentive, knowledgeable, and scrupulous viewer, who will easily reconstruct the allegory without contriving forced or malicious interpretations.
